About the creative

how “peeks” came to be and beyond.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve gone by P.K.. It’s what teachers, coaches, classmates, and coworkers have always called me since I was 11. It’s only my first two initials, nothing super special. I’ve never known much different from “P.K.”. Until last summer when I went to summer camp for eight weeks and someone shortened an already short nickname. He called me “Peeks” and for the first time, I knew a name other than “P.K.”. For the rest of the summer and last summer, I was “Peeks”.

Before coming to the University of Oregon, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to do something, but what? It was between political science, education, communication disorders and sciences (this was my #1), and English. Nothing journalism related was even on my radar. I’ve always been a creative individual so it was scary to think about submitting myself to such a fact-heavy career path. In September 2025, mere weeks before my freshman year started, I saw an application for a culture, fashion, and arts magazine for UO. I already had a portfolio and had written for a magazine in high school so why not? After a deep dive of this publication and the people behind it, I changed my major from CDS to advertising. It was a hasty decision and I did it so fast I don’t even remember it. But I haven’t looked back yet. I am now the social media manager for said magazine, am minoring in science communication (to get a little of that CDS dopamine I miss so dearly), and am involved in so many other things. My goals in life have shifted, but I stayed put. I hope to be an art director in NYC in the coming years and can’t wait to get my foot in the door and start on even bigger things.
